According to the Center on Disabilities, 12.8% of the population of Sacramento, Ca. are living with one form of disability or another. That is a range of about 967,321 people, out of a population of about 9,967,829.Our Solution
To address this challenge, we offer our services to operate a culturally and linguistically sensitive Disability Support Program through the Alta California Regional Center, Sacramento. Our services are member-driven, community-based, and will be designed around the member’s schedules.
Disability Support Services
We strongly believe that Disability Support Services can be the extra assistance individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities need to live fuller, better lives. People with disabilities have never been more empowered and elevated than they are in Western society today.
In the past, people with disabilities would frequently pass away early or live their lives feeling powerless and alienated. Today’s exceptional disability support services are the result of the fusion of medical, technology, and moral philosophy.
IALA (Independent Adult Life Academy) offers the best strategies in the disability support field by designing our program around the best interest of the member. We strive for activities that make life better and doable for each member by bringing our experiences working in children’s homes, psychiatric settings, hospitals, and disability support agencies over the past years. Which has taught us compassion, empathy, and understanding.
Co Founders
Independent Adult Life Academy, established by Jefferey Diggs and Jimmya Racimo was created with the sole purpose to help individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities achieve the greatest level of independence so they can contribute to society on their terms.
Our Goal
Our goal is to empower adults with disabilities to move beyond roles as clients and patients, to become full and active participants in their communities. The Independent Adult Life Academy (IALA) offers a broad range of services and support for members to achieve individual goals for a richer and more independent life.
OUR TEAM
Meet Our Team
Our founders together have over 8 years of quality experience in the Independent Living Skills (ILS) industry, teaching sustainable independent living for individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities.
Jefferey Diggs
Co Founder
CPR First Aid AED certified and a licensed driving instructor in California for over 10 years. In the 1990s, Jefferey was a member of a group in Del Paso Heights that worked with families and children from Group Homes. Jefferey has worked as an Independent Living Skills instructor for more than 4 years with Ability 2 Learn Inc. He also worked for IHSS In-Home Support Service in Sacramento County over 2 years.
Jimmya Racimo
Co Founder
CPR First Aid AED certified, with 4 years of working experience as an ILS Instructor at Ability 2 Learn Inc. Jimmya worked at Gateway Residential Program for 2 years as a Child Care Worker. Jimmya worked at Lighthouse Childcare Center for 12 ½ years as a Child Care/Preschool Teacher. She worked 2 ½ years for IHSS In-Home Support Service in Sacramento County. Also, worked as a Resident Monitor with The Gathering Inn for 7 months.
Sherri Madumere
Director
Personable Program Coordinator committed to providing member centered services using evidence based strategies. Management and tracking of program components to insure desired member outcomes and program success. Extensive experience upholding quality standards to drive program growth and member satisfaction. Recognized for wisdom and experience earned over 25-year career in program development and service delivery.
